Jack Boden, C Eng VMD.
Magna cum Laude, Valedictorian and Class President of the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary School Class of 1983.
Jack Boden grew up in Bermuda, exploring the rock pools of one of the world’s most beautiful coral islands, before it had been discovered by tourists! The island cats, dogs, sea birds, lizards, and the Governor’s horses inspired young Dr. Boden to care foranimals as a career.
Like his father, Jack entered the British Army, and graduated as a Second Lieutenant from the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst in England. During his thirteen years of military service, then Major Boden visited every continent and subcontinent on Earth except Antarctica. He also earned a high-honors degree in electrical engineering at London University, during his time in the service.
Later, Jack resigned from the military, took US citizenship, and applied to the University of Pennsylvania’s Veterinary School. After graduation, he worked in a large veterinary practice in New Jersey, and eventually bought his own American Animal Hospital Association registered hospital on the New Jersey shore.
Over the next 30 years Dr. Boden’s clients included Bruce Springsteen (and Wolfie), Geraldo Rivera (and Connie Chung, his Shah Pei!), John Bon Jovi (and his childrens’ rabbits), and several members, and the pets, of the East Street Band! He now lives a quieter life, in the Virgin Islands, and is the owner-veterinarian at Imperial Animal Hospital.
Dr. Boden enjoys complex orthopedic surgery and says his engineering background helps him with that. He also likes challenging medical cases that he has not encountered before.
He lives with his wife, Savanna, and four cats, Scout, Harper, Calpurnia and Boo, in the still badly-hurricane-damaged Mahogany Run.
When not being a veterinarian, Dr. Boden, who once played golf with Savanna whenever they could, now supports her on her road to recovery from breast cancer. They both hope that Mahogany Run will reopen soon!
He is recovering from a very successful Cleveland Clinic lower back surgery himself, and is looking forward to soon being able to tussle, once again, with a lively, 50lb patient.
He enjoys photography, the wonders of Photoshop and sailing. He sailed their catamaran, Queen of the South, from Maine to St. Thomas when he and his wife first moved to the Virgin Islands!
